Living Water

Water is hands down the most common substance on planet earth, which turns out to be a really wonderful thing, since 70% of our body is water, our kidneys filter almost 400 gallons/day, and 40 trillion gallons of water are carried across the united states each day, 40% of which will fall as precipitation the next day...  simply put, water is very much a necessity to human life, yet "Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13–14).
As I've mentioned before, one my of favorite subjects is the beauty of the world that God has given to us, I'm a big fan of trying to see "Christ" in the everyday world we live in. It's fairly easy to see Christ in water, he way it gives us life, eases our pain and thirst, and gives wherever it goes. Water has always been one of my favorite subjects; rivers, lakes, waves, rain...  (its a good thing my camera is supposedly water-proof. ;) )  But I'd never really photographed ice before... how can you help it when you run into ice that has such cool shapes as this though!  and the colors!  I was pretty excited...  I love the rubble and debris scene for its feel, like a mess, but still so solid and clean...  To me the snow reminds me of life (haha, doesn't everything?)  but for all I knew, this crack reached all the way across the lake, I only photographed a tiny portion of it, similar to this life in comparison to the eternities.  The last picture I love for its plane of focus, its a great angle, the ice is sharp right where i wanted it to be, and the faded blue color is totally unique!

  1. :) Along with the rebar, these might be my favorite photos from that trip. I love the last two...so much detail! It's more fun if you know the background stories too...like how we found that twisted chunk of ice under the dock, or how you stepped on pretty much every crack...I was slightly worried for your mom's health. :)
