One reason I don't like people pictures is I never know when I'm going to get in trouble for taking them... well, when a big scary (but actually very nice) Polynesian comes over and tells you to stop photographing the students you know you're in trouble... such is the life of a photographer, taking risks without that much hope for reward, but the law is in my favor because this is public land and no one can expect privacy... aside from that fun story I really like this picture for its lines, but also for the human element in it. I think we all need to take a break on the sidelines sometimes and watch the other skaters go by until we catch our breath.

Good work Alex- way to step over that fear. :)Even if you did get told to go away...that's part of the fun of photography, right? :)
ReplyDeleteThat was a big problem for me when I was filming Choir Tour: The Motion Picture. We sang at several churches, and I just wanted to film the cool buildings before our performance started. But the chaperons yelled at me quite a lot about how terribly offensive it was to film inside someone's church. Mind you, these were not Mormon churches, and other religions really DON'T CARE as much if you film in their building. I was never once asked by any of the people actually practicing that religion to turn off the camera.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you do? Some people just really hate photographers.
(P.S. I found a comic strip that reminded me of you today Alex. It's called W.T.Duck, and it's entirely about ducks who are photographers. I think maybe you would have gotten their jokes better than I did.)
